E! News clip

This a little overdue, but I finally got the clip from me and Johanna (one of the awesome fashion interns) in the People Stylewatch/E! News collaboration during last semester's internship. This was actually taken in the fashion closet with a camera crew and everything. Those heels were way too big for me and I had some trouble walking nevermind doing a little twirl. But I loved the BCBGeneration dress and I even schemed to buy one myself, but I think they were sold out in the color. You can find the dress in a pretty beige/ruby color combo here.

Lori Bergamotto (a Rutgers alum, woohoo!) was such a pro talking about the latest trendsetters! No wonder--she was the beauty director at Teen People, an assistant beauty editor at Glamour and a senior beauty editor at Lucky. Now she's an on-air correspondent for People Stylewatch and does tons of freelance work that you'll in the mentioned magazines and in others like InStyle and Cookie. Basically, the dream magazine job for people obsessed with beauty... So envious!

This aired December 26th :)

Blissful Face Wash

Bliss's Fabulous Foaming Face Wash was actually on my Christmas list last month after I tried a sample version. A small amount of this pretty blue, gentle gel with tiny exfoliating beads leaves you with the freshest and cleanest skin you can imagine! The face wash works for all skin types and has a subtle scent that calms the skin (think chamomile and roses). You can find it at Sephora or drugstore.com for about $22 for an 8.28 ounce bottle. Don't feel bad for splurging because it also easily washes off make-up so you can skip a step and save money on make-up removers. Plus, a little goes a long way--I've been using the 8.28 ounce bottle everyday for a month and I haven't even gone through 1/4 of it!

Belle of the Ball

(Left: Photo Courtesy stylist.com, Right: Photo Courtesy Getty)

The First Lady looked elegant in a golden yellow sheath dress and matching jacket by designer Isabel Toledo during the inaugural address and then she wore a dreamy white, one-shouldered gown by Jason Wu for the inaugural balls. Michelle Obama has shown she won't fail to bring great fashion style to the White House as well as her consistently polished and classic make-up look. Her makeup artist, Ingrid Grimes-Myles said she would choose "chic neutrals" for the daytime inauguration ceremony. You can see for the evening, she added a smokey plum eye shadow--a look that was all over the Spring '09 runways. You can also tell she's curved out those wickedly pointy eyebrows from a few months ago, which gives her face a much softer appearance. I can't wait to see more of our First Lady in the next four years... So exciting!

Beauty Blurb: Dolce & Gabbana

B
Dolce & Gabbana is finally coming out with a cosmetics line and the lovely Scarlett Johansson (looking very Marilyn Monroe) is the face of their ad campaign!

Gabbana told WWD, "Scarlett is sure of herself." He added, "She’s a beautiful girl, but she’s really easygoing. She is very Dolce & Gabbana."

The luxe line will arrive at Saks' Beverly Hills and Fifth Avenue stores. Expect to see rose-scented lipsticks (like the one in the ad) as well as bronzing powder, lip gloss, eye shadow duos, powder foundation and more in the beginning of February.

Beauty Blurb: Headbands

I thought it was worth sharing my latest obsession with these pretty high-end headbands that make a statement no matter what you're wearing.

Take, for instance, this beautiful Jennifer Behr crystal headwrap for $395. Okay, so I shared the link to her website and I've been called crazy for just wanting to splurge that much dough on something that goes on my head. But an unpaid intern can still dream...

Ever notice how some headbands tend to squeeze that sensitive spot behind the ears? It eventually gives me a major headache and I sadly have to slide off the accessory that was pulling my whole outfit together (duh!). Luckily, these headstraps are the new style and you can easily adjust its snugness to your comfort level. This wool headstrap is from Colette Malouf.

Celebrities, including the pretty prepster Leighton Meester from Gossip Girls, are obsessing over Jennifer Ouellette's chic hair accessories. Her line is more affordable--the Stripe Turban headband Leighton's wearing is $75. Plus, the site is having a winter sale! If you enter the code SNOWFLAKE at checkout, you'll get $20 off every order over $100.

ELLEgirl

Check out ELLEgirl.com's editors blogs (there's a link in the middle of the homepage) for my blog posts! My new internship is great and just like StyleWatch, I was immersed right into the pace of things. I'll be updating their site with not only beauty news, but entertainment, current affairs and fashion.

StyleWatch Holiday Party!

A little late in posting, but I just remembered I had these pictures. The production assistant and fashion closet ladies put together a great holiday party where the staff did a secret santa and gift-wrapping contest! My boss, ever the obsessed Starbucks addict (who isn't?), received a giftcard and a Starbucks cup with her picture attached to the cup... It was definitely a funny idea!

The presents / Me in our layout room

Aren't the decorations great? It was twice as special since it was also my last day at People. It was awesome nibbling on cheese (my favorite), chatting with some of the staffers and hanging out with the fashion intern. You could sort of see on the wall behind me the line of StyleWatch covers over the years. Pretty cool, huh? I'll miss it a lot!

Golden Globes Glam!

Since last year's annual Golden Globes ceremony was canceled from the writing strike, I was certainly looking forward to the major star wattage that made up last night's red carpet.

Kate Winslet, one of my favorite actresses, not only nabbed 2 awards for lead actress in Revolutionary Road and one for her supporting performance in The Reader, she was one of the best dressed and tressed at yesterday's glamorous affair. Her hair looked super shiny and healthy with a french twist updo and side swept bangs framing her face. It matched her strapless Yves Saint Laurent dress perfectly. She also made a statement with a classic red lip, mirroring old Hollywood glam.

Some of the other celebs that pulled off a great red lipstick last night were Maggie Gyllenhaal, Christina Applegate and Anne Hathaway.

Can't wait to see this trend at the Oscars!

Beauty Blurb: Say “Hello” to M.A.C. Cosmetics Kitty Collection

A sneak peek at the type of blogs I might be writing as an intern for ellegirl.com, here's the latest from the M.A.C. cosmetics line. Meow!

I loved Hello Kitty as a kid and I’m proud to admit I still do! That’s why I’m so excited that M.A.C. is collaborating with Sanrio to offer two Hello Kitty collections this spring: the Hello Kitty Colour Collection and Hello Kitty Kouture.

Slated to hit the U.S. maccosmetics.com February 10th (M.A.C. retail stores February 12th) and in March overseas, the Hello Kitty Colour Collection will feature lipsticks and lipglasses with names like “Fashion Mews” and “Strayin’” to achieve the prrrfect pout. The line will also have tinted lip conditioners, eye shadow palettes, glitter eye liners, nail polish, and more that range from $11-$38. Items highlight pretty shades of pink, turquoise, lavender and green.

Hello Kitty Kouture is intended to be the high-end of the collection. For example, the line’s “Dazzleglass” for lips features a reusable silver chain pendant with Hello Kitty outlined in white Swarovski crystals. “Sheer Mystery Powder” available in three shades ($90), is packaged in a silver powder compact with the beloved feline outlined in white Swarovski crystals with a pink crystal bow.

MAC Cosmetics invited various fashion designers (including Hervé Léger, Charlotte Ronson and Catherine Malandrino) to design couture pieces inspired by Hello Kitty. It will be presented to the world on February 5th, a week before the kickoff to New York Fashion Week.

New Adventures...

It's hard to imagine that it's already been a month since I've been at the Time & Life building interning for People StyleWatch. It would be a understatement to say how great of an experience it was and I learned SO much. I worked with a great team who was patient with me as I learned many of the ins and outs of the magazine industry. I still love the idea of a blog keeping track of the beauty items I love, so I'm definitely going to try and update more frequently. Plus, I'm sure I'll have a lot more to update on, with my upcoming editorial internship at Elle magazine working with the digital team on ELLE.com and ELLEgirl.com! :) So excited!!

DuWop that thing!

My last cool assignment at People was to write a blurb about a hot beauty item coming this spring, the DuWop Circle Block. It's a 2-step approach to hiding those dark under-eye circles. The lid contains a pink, water-resistant treatment shield that's sheer on contact. Its color results from a nourishing blend of vitamins K and C, amino acids and micro algae that fight distress around the eyes. Next, you spin it open and pat on the light-weight concealer as you normally would.

We'll see if my report made the cut. But in either case, look out for this item in the Beauty Q &A section of February's People StyleWatch and find the Circle Block ($28) in Sephora stores in March!
